Relation between dust and radio luminosity in optically selected early type galaxies
نویسنده
چکیده
We have surveyed an optical/IR selected sample of nearby E/S0 galaxies with and without nuclear dust structures with the VLA at 3.6 cm to a sensitivity of 100 μJy. We can construct a Radio Luminosity Function (RLF) of these galaxies to ∼ 10 W Hz and find that ∼ 50% of these galaxies have AGNs at this level. The space density of these AGNs equals that of starburst galaxies at this luminosity. Several dust-free galaxies have low luminosity radio cores, and their RLF is not significantly less than that of the dusty galaxies.

The Local Black Hole Mass Function from 2dFGRS Radio Galaxies
Radio emission from early–type (E and S0) galaxies usually signals the presence of a central supermassive black hole. If radio luminosity and black–hole mass are correlated, then we can use the large sample of radio galaxies observed in the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) to estimate the local (z < 0.1) black–hole mass function for early–type galaxies. Integrating over this mass function yi...
متن کاملWhat Powers the Compact Radio Emission in Nearby Elliptical and S 0 Galaxies ? Luis
Many nearby early-type (elliptical and S0) galaxies contain weak (milli-Jansky level) nuclear radio sources on scales a few hundred parsecs or less. The origin of the radio emission, however, has remained unclear, especially in volume-limited samples that select intrinsically less luminous galaxies. Both active galactic nuclei and nuclear star formation have been suggested as possible mechanism...
متن کاملNear - infrared imaging and the K − z relation for radio galaxies in the 7 C Redshift Survey
We present K-band imaging of all 49 radio galaxies in the 7C–I and 7C–II regions of the 7C Redshift Survey (7CRS). The low–frequency (151 MHz) selected 7CRS sample contains all sources with flux-densities S151 > 0.5 Jy in three regions of the sky. We combine the K-band magnitudes of the 7CRS radio galaxies with those from the 3CRR, 6CE and 6C⋆ samples to investigate the nature of the relationsh...
متن کاملRadio Detection of Radio-quiet Galaxies
We investigate the radio emission of ∼ 185,000 quiescent (optically unclassifiable) galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). By median-stacking FIRST cutouts centered on the optically-selected sources, we are able to reach flux densities down to the 10s of μJy. The quiescent galaxy sample is composed of two subgroups inhabiting vastly different regimes: those targeted for the...
متن کاملAN X-RAY–SELECTED ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEUS AT z = 4.6 DISCOVERED BY THE CYDER SURVEY
We present the discovery of a high-redshift, X-ray–selected active galactic nucleus (AGN) by the Calan-Yale Deep Extragalactic Research (CYDER) survey: CXOCY J033716.7 050153, located at z 1⁄4 4:61, the second high-redshift AGN discovered by this survey. Here we present its optical, near-IR, and X-ray properties and compare it with other optical and X-ray–selected high-redshift AGNs. The optica...
